Meet Our Board Members!

The San José/Evergreen Community College District is governed by a seven-member board of trustees. These trustees represent a population of over 918,800 people. Current Governing Board members are:

Mr. Rudy Nasol has represented Trustee Area 1 since December of 2012.
Mr. Balbir Dhillon has represented Trustee Area 2 since December of 2006.
Mr. Craig Mann has represented Trustee Area 3 since December of 2012.
Ms. Maria Fuentes has represented Trustee Area 4 since February of 1991.
Ms. Wendy Ho has represented Trustee Area 5 since December of 2012.
Dr. Jeffrey Lease has represented Trustee Area 6 since December of 2010.
Ms. Mayra Cruz has represented Trustee Area 7 since March of 2009.

Rudy NasolRudy Nasol

Trustee Rudy Nasol was elected to the SJECCD Board in November 2012. Nasol and his family lived in the area for over 42 years specifically in the Berryessa area of San Jose. He is very active in the community; he served as a Trustee at the Berryessa Union School District for over nine years where he was elected by his colleagues at the BUSD Board 4 times. Mr. Nasol received his Masters in Governance through the California School Boards Association where he was very active in the State level serving in the Legislative Committee, Policy Platform Committee and as a Delegate Assembly member for Region 20. For over seven years, he provided training for school board candidates through the auspices of the Santa Clara County School Board Association. He’s focused on creating an effective and high performing governance team. Mr. Nasol served in the City of San Jose Boards & Commissions where he chaired the city’s Parks & Recreation Commission in 1997. He served in the City’s Community Development Grant Committee where many CDBG grants were provided to many community service organizations serving the less fortunate citizens in the community. Mr. Nasol is very active in his local neighborhood association, the Berryessa Citizens Advisory Council where he served as the group’s president in 2001 and as member of the BCAC Board for many years. He was also awarded the Berryessa Citizen of the Year award in 2004. Mr. Nasol is also very active in the local Lions Club where he served in many leadership roles. Mr. Nasol has a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering degree. Up until his retirement in June 2012, he worked in various management positions in Facilities Management/Engineering at Palo Alto Unified School District, Stanford University Medical Center, Sunnyvale School District and at SJECCD. Mr. Nasol brings a wealth of experience to SJECCD board. His goal is to have a very effective governance team that’s focused on highly successful learning outcomes for all our students.

Balbir DhillonBalbir Dhillon

Trustee Balbir Dhillon assumed his duties on the San José/Evergreen Community College Board of Trustees in December 2006, representing Area 2 in East San José. Although this is his first time in elected office, he is no stranger to community volunteerism, serving as Vice President of the San José Gurdwara on the corner of Quimby and Murillo Avenue, and also on San José ’s Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) Board.

Craig MannCraig Mann

Craig Mann is a public school teacher. Previously, he worked in private industry throughout most of his career. He was elected to San José/Evergreen Community College District board in 2012. Craig served on the Santa Clara County Board of Education from 2006 to 2012; and before that, he was an East Side Union High School District trustee from 1998-2006. He was a member and chair of San Jose's Human Rights Commission for three years, worked as a parent volunteer, served as a church trustee and has served on several non-profit boards. Craig earned his Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Alliant International University - Shirley Hufstedler School of Education; holds a B.S. in business administration from San José State University; and a MBA from the University of Phoenix. His wife Leila is a principal in the Evergreen SD and both daughters Lenee and Brittany are successful college graduates.

Maria FuentesMaria Fuentes

“I believe public education in California is one of the greatest avenues for personal independence, achievement and fulfillment; and I think it should be equally available to all California residents,” says Ms. Fuentes who is serving her fourth term as Community College Trustee. This position enables her to pursue her passion for students’ right for a quality education that can help them achieve their life’s goals and personal dreams. As a policy maker and carrier of the public trust, Maria Fuentes is known for approaching her responsibilities with deep caring, compassion and concern for the constituencies she serves.

Wendy HoWendy Ho

Wendy Ho, MPA, is a community advocate and civic leader with over 10 years of experience working on behalf of students and underserved communities at the local, state, and federal level. Born and raised in San José, Wendy first learned the value of education from her grandmother and is a proud product of public schools.

Jeffrey LeaseDr. Jeffrey Lease

Dr. Lease was born and raised in San José. Dr.  Lease has close personal ties with SJECCD, faculty, staff, and their families, where he has provided chiropractic care for almost 10 years.  He worked as a campus administrator for 4 years at Evergreen Valley College and his mother Lois recently retired after serving 33 years.  His passion is to ensure that every child in the community has the same educational opportunities he did growing up in San José.  Dr. Lease earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2000 from Palmer College Chiropractic West.

Mayra CruzMayra Cruz

Mayra Cruz assumed her duties in March 2009 when the board appointed her to fill a vacancy. Ms. Cruz currently serves as faculty of the De Anza College Child Development and Education Department in Cupertino, California. With more than 25 years of program and community development experience, she has dedicated her professional career to linking educational systems to community based efforts at the early childhood, elementary, and college levels. "As a trustee, I am committed to effective leadership and strategic directions. My role will be to tackle, along with my fellow trustees, student access, retention, and student equity at a level that impacts a broad base and influences policy within sound fiscal practices," says Ms. Cruz.
