• About the Foundation

    Anita Morris

Established in 1982, the San José/Evergreen Community College District Foundation was created to benefit student and facilities programs that were not otherwise supported by the District’s budget. The Foundation promotes student success and nourishes program innovation and excellence by providing special financial support for the District’s colleges. The task of the Foundation has become even more critical as funding for public education continues to be limited by the State of California. Scholarships are especially needed to help defray the rapidly rising costs of fees and books.

The Foundation’s first substantial gift was received from the Gullo family, and those proceeds were utilized to build the Student Center at Evergreen Valley College. Since that time, the Foundation has provided financial assistance for qualified students, seed money for special activities, and a service learning abroad program to Mexico and Vietnam.

Goals of the Foundation are threefold:
    • Support the colleges by supplementing activities and providing student assistance.

    • Provide a legal and supportive framework within which the colleges have their own identities, along with an ability to generate and expend funds, including those for scholarships.

San José City and Evergreen Valley Colleges both have a scholarship committee in place which acts on behalf of the Foundation in awarding scholarships and grants. Each college publishes a list of scholarships, and applications are accepted prior to the Fall and Spring semesters.
