SAN JOSÉ CITY COLLEGE TO DEBUT LET THE EAGLE FLY, A STORY OF CESAR CHAVEZ AND THE FARM WORKERS
-
(SAN JOSÉ, CA—March 5, 2010) In honor of the upcoming Cesar Chavez holiday, San José City College (SJCC) will showcase Let the Eagle Fly, The Story of Cesar Chavez and the Farmworkers, March 5-31 in the SJCC Theater, located at 2100 Moorpark Avenue in San José.
-
Let the Eagle Fly is a musical drama that tells the story about the late civil rights leader who fought for farmworkers’ rights. It traces Chavez's life from his childhood, as the son of migrant farm workers in the Great Depression, through his founding of the farm workers union and commitment to the non-violent struggle for social and economic justice. The musical highlights the five-year grape boycott which brought nationwide attention to the farm workers' plight.

San José/Evergreen Community College District Acting Chancellor Jeanine Hawk says, “It’s an honor to have this performance in San José, as it was home to Cesar Chavez and where much of his union organizing began. Our district is in line with Chavez’s values of equity and social justice and we believe this is a great way to create awareness about the significance of Chavez and his contributions to improve society.”
-
Much of the cast in Let the Eagle Fly is made up of local community members and students. The musical is based on a book by John Reeger, directed by Richard Falcon, and produced by Chavez Family Vision, Inc. For more information or for tickets, visit www.lettheeaglefly.com
