(SAN JOSE, CA--February 10, 2010) The Certified Nursing Assistant training class (CNA), NURS 109, has been approved by the California Department of Public Health and provides interested students with a foundation of basic nursing care. Successful completion of the 6.5 unit course, qualifies the student to take the California State Certification Exam. Once certified, students are eligible for job placement in Skilled Nursing Facilities and Acute Care Hospitals. Certified Nursing Assistants earn between $16-$19/hr.
Dean of Nursing and Allied Health, Lynette Apen says, “this program creates opportunity for our students interested in a growing, entry-level career in health care.” According to the California Employment Development Department, projected statewide job growth for this sector of healthcare from 2006-2016 is 21%. The projected job growth in Santa Clara County for this sector is 15%.-
The CNA Training Course is offered during spring and fall semesters, accommodating 60 students per academic year, and is in alignment with the educational pathways in Nursing Allied Health.
